Like you, I am deeply concerned about our current immigration system. I support a comprehensive immigration reform strategy that will end illegal entry and effectively address the reality that 12 million undocumented immigrants are currently living in the United States , many of whom hold jobs, make significant contributions to our economy, and have children who are American citizens.
As you know, immigration reform requires action on many fronts. The Department of Homeland Security does not have the resources to adequately protect our borders, and the system for legal immigration to our country is broken. I totally get where you're coming from - I was in the same place also some time back. And I absolutely support dissenting voices - every organization needs a conscience. IV is no exception. So go ahead with your questions and ignore the folks trying to shut you up.
Heres why I contribute to IV -
IMHO the biggest role IV is playing right now is educating the media, politicians, administrators etc. about the hardships we're going through. The first step towards solving a problem is to get people to acknowledge there is one. And right now there are people in the administration who don't think or even know there is a problem.
Mark Bartosik's done some great work with the media. Nixtor has also been prominent here. I'm sure there are others also involved.

If some part of the contributions make life easier for these folks - its absolutely worth it, isn't it?
And for folks who refer to this as "Donation"
Its not a donation - its a contribution.
Donation refers to a gift to a charitable organization whereas a ontribution is generally associated with a gift to a common fund or collection.
I hope this helps you somewhat to get over the hurdle of moving from a member to a contributor.

But the stark reality is this... If you look at the IV website to see what action/progress has been made in "the cause"....there is some vague statement about Patton Boggs and how we have this lobbyist who is educating congressmen...Who exactly? How? When? Oh those details cannot be given.
There is a link about IV in the news...the last time IV was in the news was in Sept 2007 ...19 MONTHS AGO...
Then there is a link about IV and FBI namechecks...The last update is some thread in Feb 08 and this brilliant statement from 2007 ..."IV has met officials from agencies and has raised this issue in the recent past. We have been informed that there is an effort being undertaken to significantly reduce name check backlogs in the next 6 months." SERIOUSLY?? You really expect that you can convince people to contribute based on this flimsy evidence of doing "something" that you really cant tell us ??
For those asking for money, THERE HAS NOT BEEN A SINGLE UPDATE ON ANY PROGRESS SPECIFICALLY ACHIEVED BY IV IN THE LAST YEAR AND HALF !!!
How can you justify this? Actually, you dont have to....There are many like me who will answer questions of panicked people about how to navigate the complex immigration system but until IV can provide some concrete proof of what specifically it is doing, how exactly it is spending the money and what roadmap of progress it hopes to achieve and whether it is on its way to achieving it....the money wells will continue to be dry.
And this new caste system of the DONOR forum which basically says screw you to everyone who has spent time, money or effort on IV and completely goes against the "Change for fairness and Justice" mumbo jumbo is a step in the right direction, IV needs to give way to an actual movement that actually does something and this DONOR forum concept will certainly go a long way in the marginalization of this site and community.

Its not over till its over :), and its not over yet by any means. I am willing to wait and fight ;) . Everyone has priorities in life, each person would view GC situation differently. For me, its not the ultimate dream, but just a vehicle to continue my journey for some more time (with peace of mind). I am definitely looking to gray my hair in my home country or atleast be there once I am grayed haired :D
Doing an MBA/PMI and looking for managerial job is the only realistic possibility for most, I don't think most people would wanna still be programming when they turn 40/45 (depending on how old/young you feel).
My gut feel is that there will be some kind of relief by end of 2007 or early 2008

They hushed up and approved my EAD in 20 days. Why ???? 'cos So they don't hit Jun'30 and give 2 years. They wanted to milk another 680 from me so they hushed up and sent me the 1 year EAD in 20 days.
I never imagined that the journey to GC would be such hard, and I have to give my whole life following these notices and EADs and what not. USCIS cannot approve my GC for years and years but now abrubptly they approved my EAD in less than 15 days, when I was expecting to get 2 years extension. My EAD app. was sent out on june 9th and my lawyer told me that they saw approval from yesterday 6/26 (wow 16 days including shipping!!!). USCIS always has hidden agenda, and everybody can tell that it is just money, which leads to such decisions. No body would forget last years july fiasco when they hushed up GC visa numbers for rendering people not to apply before fee hike. The present EAD issues everyone is reporting here is another fiasco. I wonder if there would be barrage of lawsuits for EAD fiasco as we saw last year for july fiasco. Now I understand why USCIS gave themselves time till 30th june, otherwise why wouldn't they make 2 year EADs effective right from the day of announcement in early week of june. Smart move!
Oh well this is what we have to face till we get that "Gone Card"! Day by day my patience is losing. Is it worth all this trouble?

i think this modification of the interpretation of the law is mainly to prevent the massive loss of numbers. I think the DOS now realizes that USCIS cannot effectively handle processing of the massive release of visa numbers in the last quarter, thereby they are doing it in an incremental manner so that the demand is handled effectively (USCIS standards effectively).
I agree; the law definitively leaves no room for error. If all the visas are held back until fourth quarter then there is a significant chance that visas will go unused.
However; it isn't in uscis/dos discretion to make such decisions on a whim for process improvement.
In the orgnizations we work in; there is a big consideration whether the new project or idea is feasible in the current environment. If it isn't then the project/idea gets shelved because it's not doable. However; congress and various regulatory bodies do not give such luxury to uscis. They don't ask them if the implementation of a law or creation of a law will fit into their system or workflow.
At a high level; country quotas in EB do not make a whole lot of sense. I have tried to figure out why they are there; how companies and candidates use EB greencards. Conclusion, I came up with is that in a lot of ways EB is a way to circumvent family base immigration. Many peoples parents have greencards, brothers, sisters, friends, etc; and they realize that it takes too long to get greencard through family base and the fastest way is to come through h-1b and go through EB route. Also; companies; company owners will favor their own people in filing h-1b's and greencards and then you have a situation where certain people are favored due to their nationality or connection. I firmly believe that uscis and the regulatory authorities understand this and hence the reason why there is country quotas.

I am not indian, I am chinese, and I attended the rally in DC. I am so touched by you brave indian people. while I feel such a shame that we only had much less chinese there. part of the reason is that IV is originally indian club. we got the message but kind of lack the close organization.
anyway, I am also thinking about another rally.
1, it has to be on weekends, so everyone can come
2. it should be in multiple cities, from coast to coast, all major cities.
DC. NYC, chicago, LA, SF, houston, boston. reserach triangle, seattle etc, where professional immigrants lives most.
3. we need to make sure everyone will come, need good personal organization, not just voluntarily, we need personal contact, conversation, meetings ahead, level by level, to build a good "relationship" with each other.

5. honestly, we didn't get much media coverage. shame ! nothing on TV, newspaper frontpage. but--- if we have a huge rally, everyone will have to cover us, pay attention to us. it all depends on us.

I guess I am little late on this post but I thought I would share what I got from the USCIS Call Center.
My application reached on July 2nd. When I asked the representative about the fate of my application, first she said I should be fine. Then, I asked about the updated July VB and she put me on hold for 2-3 mins. She came back and told me that my application would be rejected and sent back in 15 days. When I told her that my application was received before DOS released the update and technically my application was received by USCIS when the bulletin was still current, she said that would depend on the descretion of that USCIS office.....funny but that's what she said. Again, she said that I could reapply in Oct and they will process the application then. But when I asked whether she was sure that VB will be current in Oct, she said USCIS doesn't know that.
So, the bottom line is.....there is no point in calling USCIS and asking them about the current fiasco as they themselves are unsure. You can still call them and you might hear something different but equally confusing.
Just everybody call them and post the USCIS CSR crazzzy answers. ...Atleast in future they will be careful not doing these kind of flip-flop things ........ We all know they will either reject or accepted and that decision needs to be taken at the highest level of USCIS...

Nearly one-third of this foreign-born population is estimated to consist of undocumented or illegal residents; a clear indication that our immigration system is broken. While a number of bills have been introduced concerning various elements of immigration reform, the issue has yet to come before the full Senate. There are currently over 38 million foreign-born individuals living in the United States, which accounts for nearly 13 percent of the total U.S. population. Nearly one-third of this foreign-born population is estimated to consist of undocumented or illegal residents; a clear indication that our immigration system is broken. While a number of bills have been introduced concerning various elements of immigration reform, the issue has yet to come before the full Senate. I am currently evaluating a number of policy options, and will remain mindful of your thoughts on this subject as we proceed in the 111th Congress.
Again, thank you for taking the time to share your concerns with me regarding this issue. It is an honor and privilege to serve the people of the great State of Florida in the United States Senate. I take great pride in being a native Floridian, and I look forward to the tremendous opportunity to better the lives of all Floridians. Following is copied from Greg Siskind's Blog, and it makes me wonder if it means that those who who filed I-140 by mail can submit I-485 with the I-140 receipt number only that can be obtained from the cleared check?

My I-140 is approved and already filed I-485. Finger Printing completed twice and Medical also completed. My PD is Sept 2005 filed at Texas. Texas Processing completed for I-485 shows Sept.2006. This means my processing is completed and now the PD is current can I expect the Green Cards ....what is next??

You jerk, EVERY non profit need resources to "DO" stuff. EVERY non-profit has to have a revenue stream of some sort. Just because its a "non-profit" doesn't mean that everyone will give or do stuff free for a non-profit. Is that so difficult to understand for a "highly educated"/"highly skilled" immigrant such as yourself? The bandwidth you used to write your post for the audience of the world wide web, that was paid for by my hard earned $$$$. You want this group of folks to do stuff but you don't want to part with a dime. Nice.
But hey, who cares, lets get back to our favorite topic - complain about someone about something, shall we. Lets blame someone and vent out my frustration before I go to bed. If nothing else, it will be therapeutic. Idiot.

Is this the language 2 civilized people use to discuss or debate. When 2 people debate, both believe other is not right - thats why its called discussion or debate. Doesn't mean we need to use extreme or bad words.

Agreed CIR benefits illegals more than us, and some of its provisions are flaky. But then it raises the EB cap to 625K and exempts MS + 3 yrs from cap.That in itself is a huge relief measure for us. Agreed illegals benefit a lot more, and the dems are more sympathetic to them but the point is we are not the choosers here. Something is better than nothing is the dictum for us.
Let us now stop re-inventing the wheel and re-focus our efforts to make the new congressmen aware of our situation. Have a nice day !
Actually I do have a convincing answer... whether or not that bill passes, we are in a lose-lose situation. I have read the bill (not in its entirety like I already stated). I know that the amnesty section already specified there will be no immediate granting of citizenship, excepting the wording for those who have been in this country for more than 5/6 years seems to imply they would get citizenship (again, the way a bill is worded can be twisted in future).
What I am worried about is, I get the feeling this is going to end up dipping into our EB3 pool... we previously had a Sched A for physicians and nurses that took numbers out of EB3 exclusively for them.
And I don't listen to Lou Dobbs or NumbersUSA rantings. But if you kept your ears open more than 6 months ago, you would also have heard some Dems says some not-so-friendly things about us.
One prominent Dem senator said H1-Bs are not suffering as much as illegals.
Another prominent Dem said this country needed more farm workers, not more IT / skilled ppl.

Time and again I have noticed that you backed your suggestions with relevant documents. I for one, commend you for the work you do on this forum. I was almost thinking this case might set a precedent for dormant H1B, but apparently not. The other information that you provided on the other forum that was completely new to me was, when you pulled out the document regarding GC for the child of permanent resident born abroad.
