As much as all of us on this board would like to get our GCs, remember that GC is just a means to an end, it is not the end itself. Dont make the GC so important that not getting it starts "depressing" you.
Focus on the positives - the years that you have spent in the US have given you great experiences, some savings (hopefully:)), better perspective on life etc. Wherever you live, you can put these things to good use.
So chill out ! Getting depressed is not going to get you your GC faster.;)
P.S. I voluntarily dumped my 2003 PD to take up a new job & now I have a Dec 2006 PD. I have bought a house (and also sold one). I do not plan to allow GC to dictate my life.....

ok suri, while you work 30 hours and make money for yourself, let me take your burden and share my research with you. Here is what you have to do to see the result -
Goto -
http://soprweb.senate.gov/index.cfm?event=selectfields
- check box for client name
- click 'submit' button
- enter 'Immigration Voice' in the client name
- click 'submit' button
Now you see the amount spent by IV for lobbying in the Senate documents. Please do the total and let me know how much is that amount. I am not "highly skilled" like you, so I can't calculate?
Do you know anyone who spent 1/2 million on lobbying for our issues. Maybe your friends have spent that money.

Its good to see this thread is still active. I just came home after 30 hrs non-stop work due to our product launch. I did go through quickly on all the posts after my post and I really didnt get the point I was looking for. I will respond to each of you tomorrow in one post.
The response I see for any type of campaign in the form of contributions is pathetic, based on the number of people waiting and those who are active. We will go nowhere, but this must change, and we will help.
I will now have to sleep for 5 hrs and then go back.

Your lawyer is absolutely wrong. All applications received on or before 17th Aug.2007 must be received by USCIS, even if they can't open the the packets on or before 17th Aug.2007.

It is a hard fact but I guess I do not want to scare anyone. If you notice some people have got their JuLY 2ND filed cases receipt # and most of them have a Notice date of 08/04/2007 (the guys who got their receipt #). This notice date is the day the Receipt was generated. So today is 08/13/2007. It seems that USCIS is delaying this process of issuing receipts as that will give them a chance to reject applications after 17th. So I guess we should brace ourselves for rejection notices also......

Thanks for the update. Beginning from S. 1932 last year, we have been riding an extremely rough roller coaster. We are all sick of politics. I personally feel nothing much might be accomplished this year. A lot is at stake for politicians if they take any position. Thus dragging the issue and dealing with it next year seems to be their only option. It is a bad sign for lots of legal immigrants who have been anxiously waiting all this while. If at all anything can happen, it will only be due to initiative from the President. Or if President signs a emergency bill giving relief to outstanding, highly educated people who have been in line. This option maybe a daydream but will keep us optimistic until November this year. Sorry for sounding pessimistic.

My app was sent to NSC on 7/2 but I-140 approved from TSC. Still no receipts, no checks encashed. Called USCIS, and they asked me to call after 90 days. Any ideas ? Is anyone else in the same boat ?

I am the same boat, got the approval email and a week later received the approval notice in the mail. Did not get welcome or CPO email. My approval notice says I MAY have to do biometrics again to get my PR card
and they will notify me about appearing for biometrics if required.
Dose your approval notice have a similar message?

A GC is allocated after AOS application has been approved. An AOS application may not use up a GC # available in current year's quota (due to name check delays). Thus, AOS application submission is reasonably independent of currently available GC #'s.
However, retrogression does not even allow AOS application submission. The concept of retrogression can be avoided by accepting AOS applications but issuing GC's whenever a GC # is available.
That is why it loos like there is a law that limits the # of AOS applications submiited in addition to the GC #'s that can be allocated: two completely different concepts.

Just want to highlight a positive point. June visa bulletin shows that NONE of the visas (or very negligible) are going to be wasted this fiscal year for India. Shows increased USCIS efficiency. Hopefully it will be true for World and China as well.

Mine is a labor substitution case. Labor PD: 02/2007. I-140 filed on 06/29/2007 in NSC and received the case number and also notice of action (I-797). If it is not a labor substitution case, then it would have been filed in TSC.
I live in Texas and my attorney filed I-1485 in TSC on 08/02/2007.
Whether my I-140 (based on labor substitution) will be transferred to TSC, from NSC? Or my I-485 will be transferred from TSC to NSC? How this transfer of cases from one center to another happening?

I think EB3 India will move to Dec 2004 by end of this year. (crossing my finger and praying hope this will come true)
By the end of this year If they haven't made any significant movement in EB3 India We should seriously look into filling a lawsuit for country discrimination. Seriously I'm surprised no one is looking into filling a lawsuit for this endless country based discrimination.
I can't think of any other solution for this mess. Watching the house hearing made me sick they can't even differentiate GC visa and H1B visa.
I would be happy if EB2 India gets upto Dec04. Forget EB3. Also any lawsuit is only sustainable only if its properly funded, well represented and there is wide public support if you expect the class action status. Mr Rajiv Khanna filed a lawsuit for 485 backlogs and its class action status was denied by the judge which I personally think was a biased judge and later USCIS quickly approved 485s of plaintiffs making lawsuit moot.

I think it is ironic that we (from India) complain about quota on GC when we are the masters of quotas whether it be in education, workplace, politics etc. I myself was not affected by quotas in India, but I know several friends who were, simply because they were born in "upper caste" and therefore had to be denied opportunities as "revenge" for the injustice meted out by their ancestors several centuries ago, instead of being based on economics.
I personally think GC quota has a rationale behind it. It allows for a reasonable share to go to smaller countries so that the US population maintains its diversity. Besides, near the end of the year, if the numbers are unused, they are rolled over to larger countries like India and China, thereby automatically eliminating the quota.
EB based GC should NOT have Quota (.) We are already IN the system. How will it effect diversity. Diversity visa are meant for divesrsity. EB is skill based and only skill should be cared for,
