We got our Cards today along with Welcome notice.
Yesterday status got updated for me and my wife as below:
Current Status: Approval notice sent.
On August 8, 2008, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I485 APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS. Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service.
Hope I will receive GC soon. Haven't got CPO mails/status yet.

My APs are pending approval, I was told they reimburse if we write to them. Did they reject your apps and paid you back the checks? We also got our cards this 15th, what do we need to do at the SSN office, please guide.

No, I did not get a refund. I even got a mail for my EAD application being rejected.
If there is a process to get a refund, I would like to know it too.
But I am not too hopeful in this situation as I remember when efiling for EAD and AP, I read somewhere that the application fee is non-refundable.
At the SSN office. You fill out application for a replacement card. Option 3 on the ticket generating screen.
The SSN issuing staff know what to do after that. This goes without saying take your GC with you. Nothing else is required. They do not even look at the passport or any other form of ID. GC is the only thing needed.
FYI got the new SSN cards. They do NOT say permission required from DHS to work. In fact the card is exactly similar to the one my daughter got (she is US citizen, born here).

That may be so but the number of those who choose to stay/would rather stay is overwhelming compared to those who don't ;)
I agree. Most people are risk averse & the decision to go back is a tough one. However, more people are considering that option now than ever before. And the ones that I know have gone back are pretty happy with their decision.

But as suggested by IV members, please do consider a visit to india and take second opinion from the Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, its one of the best cancer treament centre in the world.
US Healthcare system is for Profit, some medical facilities in US are exception, but if you see the overall Healthcare system it sucks and its all driven by insurance and big Pharmaceutical companies.
Please send me the private e-mail if you need any help in Mumbai to reach good doctor in Tata Memorial Hospital.

A note to my fellow IV members - I am not after the $42/Hr job. Good luck in finding a US citizen to do this job. I was wrong about EEO, it is actually IRCA which prohibits discrimination in recruitment and hiring.

We have to correct the misinformation spread by anti-immigrant groups that most jobs are "reserved for H1Bs", while the reality is different. Most jobs are "reserved" for American workers (although such reservation is illegal under IRCA). We have to provide the proof that the myth of "thousands of jobs reserved for foreign workers" in nothing but a myth. My posting is a small step in that direction.
Here is another one in the continuing series of exposing the highly prevalent illegal hiring practice. I request everyone to start posting similar job-ads you get from recruiters. Once we get a hundred or more ads here, we can start E-mailing the links to the media.

Ok. My bad. I was using lame duck as an example. I'm not hoping anything on the lame duck session.
My question is/was, how long it takes for a bill(passed) to be effective. Is there a timeline within which President has to sign it? Once he signs it how long does it take become effective?

No one is saying people are cutting the line. Most of us are saying USCIS is not processing cases on FIFO. Either you don't know the fact that USCIS approves cases in whatever order they are doing now or you are just pretending to be ignorant of the fact.
I don't know for whatever reason you don't see the fact what people are talking about here, but I don't blame you. If what people want here doesn't suit our case we may not like it. But please, just trying to beat around the bush is not going to help anyone here for that matter not just me alone.
You suggestion of sending flowers seems like that is the only solution to all the problems. I would say the reversal of the July 2 visa bulletine didn't just happen because of the flowers the members sent, the law suit AILA wanted to file against USCIS was one of the major reason apart from the California's Lawmakers letter. So please don't try to cut peoples idea by trying to belittle them, if you don't agree with them it is ok, if everyone agreed on the same thing life will be so dull.

With or without retrogression someone might get an RFE, get stuck in namecheck etc. Ending retrogression provides earlier PDs better chances of getting GC faster (if dates are 'C' you get it the month you clear RFE, Name check etc.)
Just posting here isn't helping you cause. Instead you guys can get together and start sending flowers to USCIS director requesting him to publish the complete list of GC applications approved every year. It's the first step in enforcing FIFO. Right now there is no such list and no way of knowing who got their GC out of turn. And while you guys are at it also send some flowers to FBI to clear Namechecks FIFO, to DOL to approve PERM petitions FIFO etc.
Go spend those $50 at Flowers.com folks. Start writing to Senators, collect money, do the lobbying etc. Who's stopping you?
Or do you want logiclife, pappu and rest of the IV core to do it PRO BONO for you?

It is better to take your time and make sure everything is sound, then hurry and miss something.
Can you guys let me know whether your checks payable to "Department of Homeland Security" has been canceled? They received my application on June/4 but my check has not been cashed yet. I heard your priority date is the date they actually get your money. Is this true?
My attorney said the checks should be payable to USCIS not DHS. The PD is always ur LC filed date. Receipt date is when the application is received and notice date is when they assing a LIN/wac number and take ur money.

Per my lawyer,
1. USCIS does not mandate that you must inform when you invoke AC21. You can inform them if and when you get RFE.
2. I strongly believe that we should not accept job offers that is not related to the job you originally applied for. My lawyer says it is usually vague and if USCIS determines other wise I will be in trouble. And for the same reason I am hesitant to accept very good employee offer from my current client.
3. Self employment is ok as long as the requirements are met and that is what is I am doing now.
