Thanks gc28262 for your contributions to this drive. I request others to pitch in as well. We can discuss the nitty-gritties till we bleed. But that won't achieve anything. It will not stop the minformation being spread. We have to collect enough evidence and present it to the media. 4-5 job ads is just the beginning, we need a collection of few hundred to prove this is the prevalent trend.

We landed in Canada (Rainbow Bridge, Niagara) last week. No questions asked by Canadian immigration regarding stay in US. On the way back (Rainbow Bridge) US IO did not ask anything about 485 or Canada PR.
We filed AOS in July 2007 and have valid H1 visa in the passports. But it all depends on your luck and we had some personal reasons to land in Canada and we took the risk.

Is suing the only option? USCIS could be making unintended mistake. We want to get clarification in a smoother and faster process before the flood gates open in October.

I am neither a God to show you a way nor your friend to be next to you and help you hold your spirit high. All I got is a heart to show and give you an unconditional love and support.

A suggestion about the contents of these emails/letters:
Why do we insist on proposing the solution to our problems? One person wants to remove country limits, another wants 5 year EADs, yet another wants to file 485 regardless of priority dates.
I see 2 problems with this:
1- The external world doesn't care or understand. Do you think the average CNN viewer understands what retrogression or priority dates are? For that matter does anyone in the White House?
2- This divides us by EB category, country, pre/post July '07, EB3 to EB2 porter etc.
In your letters please focus on the problem. If invited to the table we can propose solutions, but now is the time to highlight the problems and the potential impact it has on the US economy, our families, and communities.
Examples:
Impact on US economy:
- I have significant buying power, however I am unable to make any substantial longer term financial decisions due to immigration uncertainties. I may be asked to leave the country on a moment's notice. If there was some stability, I may be looking to invest in a home or a new business
Impact on our families:
- My spouse cannot work. She is qualified and capable. Yet due to the vagaries of the immigration system, she cannot pursue full time employment without significant additional paperwork
Impact on the communities:
- Most of us hold strong political and social views. The current system makes it untenable and in some cases illegal (like donating to political parties) to participate in the democratic process. In the grand machine that is the American democratic system, we are probably the only group of people that are taxed and yet have no representation whatsoever.
Maybe these points are not strong enough. But if they are not, then it is not worth anyone's time to pay any attention. Find the legal immigrant population's "we do the jobs Americans will not do" slogan!

I agree with you on the fact that this is extremely frustrating. Believe me I can feel your pain. However all I am saying is, put your faith in the IV core for a more long term solution, where ALL EB categories benefit. This is a **NOT** a quick strike mission as we have seen for the past 4 years or more. The system is HORRIBLY broken. You cant try and put a bandaid on a foot long laceration. I am sure the idea of a quick fix appeals to a lot of people and I dont blame them either. Everyone on here wants to get their GC and get this mess over with.
I have full faith in the IV core and I know they are working on it as we speak... but Eb3_Nepa we cannot let our guard down against USCIS and I know very well that this is a long term mission.. but we can still do some quick strikes and weaken the enemy before the kill... or would u rather just wait another 3-4 years before the final kill ??
( playing too much of the RTS games because of the apparent frustration ..)
Anyways.. I am with the core and will always support whatever they do, because it will be good for the community as a whole.

Simple thing, I don't comment all the bull that goes on , on the open forum, discussing Vonage to anything, who cares. Put up the opinions no problem. But there has to be a limit on how and what are you putting up.
Despite IV doing so much for the community, the post from gvenkat, jyoti and including yours and lot others (guys you know whom I am talking about) actually demotivate the group and this way you contribute to IV but all NEGATI VE When I see this type shit I just cannot stop myself and I think would be a shame on myself if I do so.
Also , one time donation are not helping. IV needs more donations, more volunteers. Come on join in, everything is flexible here for volunteers, so please contribute and donate.IV core has got it to this point with least support and proved that yes it can be done now what else do you what IV to prove. It is these people and their opinions that cause IV to exist as a group. Lets say you are going to lock membership only to people paying a membership fee every month. How big a group are you going to get?
If it is going to be significant, then maybe that's the way IV should go and should just shut down public forums where there are members who can talk and members who have "not bought their right to talk"
I bring up the "monthly membership" issue because I did make donations on multiple occasions (you should probably look up your records and verify). And yet, under the new design, I am not a donor, I do not get access to the exclusive threads that only the privileged monthly members do. So, just like the OP, I am a thankless member who thinks the group is thankless. So, I do not know what initiatives IV has taken, but yet, I linger around the forums because it has so many smart people throwing around ideas, working on theories and just being friendly.
Maybe you should just create a little forum of yours in one corner and put walls around so no one can come in and make suggestions about things you won't tell them about. Does it take that much effort to be nice to someone? Just remember that he is free to tell you what to do irrespective of who he is. What you actually do is upto you. Just be nice for a change, it will make you get a whole new perspective on life!

Hi All,
I got mine and my wife green cards on 21st august, Thursday.
Our case was approved on August 12th.
According to the trend I have seen it takes about 1.5 weeks to get your greencard in hand from the day you get the card production email.
Went to the Social Security office on 22nd. (I had actually calculated the day when I would get the cards looking at the trend on IV, so I had planned for it.)
The moment they see the GC (with a replacement card application of course) they know what to do. I think they do it very frequently.
Should get the new Social Security cards (which do NOT have a line at the top that says DHS authorization required to work), in a week or so.
Also I got I-131 DENIED email 2 days after my 485 was approved (I had applied for renewal). Yesterday got the letter form USCIS in the mail for the denial of I-131.

The career growth, job mobility and quality of life of a half a million legal skilled immigrants is subverted by the bill in its current form.
Specifically, the restrictions on employment mobility of current applicants affected by this bill, limit improvements in all wage rates. This is because when the market for highly skilled staff improves (as it is doing today), we have significant bureaucratic barriers placed that prevent us from changing jobs. This creates a mis-allocation of scarce talent and limits the growth of the high tech industry as a whole.
The permanent residency process currently takes a great many years, but technologies change fast. Staying in the same job can make a tech career stagnant. Few Americans in the technology field are willing to stay in the same position within their current company for that many years. So, Again, this limits growth in the technology industry because scarce skills are being miss-allocated.
It is not just about changing jobs: I also get requests from friends that want me to improve their website or even join a start-up. They are dumbfounded when I tell them I may not because it is illegal for me to do so. Nor may I volunteer my time. Nor may I start my own company because I may not work for myself. The economic cost of a half-million highly skilled people not being able to start a business must be staggering.
Personally, since moving to the "land of the free", I find it ironic that I lost my economic freedom. It is also heartbreaking to see the rug pulled out from beneath us when we've been such law-abiding and dedicated participants in the current system all these years. In terms of years, in terms of opportunity lost, and in terms of money wasted on lawyers, we humbly request an equitable solution for all skilled, law-abiding immigrants.
Here are some specific reasons why the current CIR bill fails us, and fails the US economy. Also suggestions on improvements that can be made:

Section 501(b) reduces the number of green cards to legal skilled immigrants from the current 140,000/year to 90,000/year and diverts the major portion of those green cards to future low-skills guest workers under the Y visa program. Instead of increasing that number to reduce the backlogs this section take a step backwards and would exacerbate the backlogs. On the other hand, 503(f)(2) of this act would allocate an estimated 11 million green cards over a time frame of 5 years � 2.2 million a year � to undocumented immigrants. Immigration Voice requests congress to treat legal skilled immigrants at parity with undocumented immigrants and increase the number of green cards to at least 250,000 for 5 years for currently backlogged applicants defined under Sec. 502(d)(2) in order to reduce to current backlog before the untested points based merit system is functional.
2. Immigration Voice requests congress to waive per-country ceilings on backlogged petitions to be processed under Sec. 502(d)(2) in order to make the backlog reduction more efficient. The bill provides a very similar waiver from per-country ceilings to family based pending petitions in section 508(b).
3. Immigration Voice requests congress to allow legal skilled immigrants to file for adjustment of status for those applicants who have been certified by DOL to be doing jobs no US citizen is willing, qualified or able to do.
